Choi Jieun

최지은은 인체의 모호한 얼굴과 몸의 형상을 통하여 인간의 ‘시선’을 탐구한다. 작가는 미니멀한 배경에 신체의 부드러운 곡선을 전면적으로 드러내 인간의 몸이 지니고 있는 언어적이고 묘한 성질에 모색한다. 작품 속 인물들은 자신의 직관적이고 감각적인 시선을 따라 자유롭게 형태를 구성하며, 감각적으로 마주한다. 이렇듯 감각의 바탕으로 색과 붓질을 캔버스 화면 속에 축적시켜, 필연적으로 예측할 수 없는 회화 속 우연성과 시각적인 풍부함을 더하고 있다. 작가는 작품을 그려내는 과정에서 생선과 소멸의 순환 사이에 대해 고찰하여 예기치 못한 형태와 상황을 작품 속에 담아내는데, 이는 구상과 추상 사이의 간극에서 묘한 긴장감을 불러일으킨다. 그리고 인간의 의식과 무의식 사이의 내면적 이야기와 심리 세계를 고찰하며 정면을 바라보는 인물의 시선을 통해 인간이 느끼는 직감과 공감을 경험하도록 한다. 최지은은 독일 칼스루에에서 거주하며 작업 중이다. 동국대학교 한국학과를 졸업하고, 독일 칼스루에 조형예술대학 디플롬, 동대학원에서 석사학위를 받았다. 2024년 갤러리 스탠에서 개인전을 가졌으며, 서울시립미술관(2013), 서울역사박물관(2014) Fifty Fifty 갤러리(2015), 칼스루에 thrartape(2021), 칼스루에 Gray and Gray Gallery (2022), 뒤셀도프르 Galerie Kellermann(2023), 베를린 Galerie Droste(2023) 등 다수의 기획전에 참하였다. Choi Jieun explores the human "gaze" through ambiguous faces and body shapes. The artist emphasizes the soft curves of the body against minimal backgrounds, probing the linguistic and mysterious qualities of the human form. The figures in her works freely shape themselves according to their intuitive and sensory gaze, creating forms that are sensorially engaging. By layering colors and brushstrokes on the canvas, Choi adds an element of unpredictability and visual richness to her paintings. Through the creative process, she contemplates the cycle of creation and dissolution, embedding unexpected forms and scenarios into her work, which evokes a subtle tension between the figurative and the abstract. Choi investigates the internal narratives and psychological realms between consciousness and the unconscious, allowing viewers to experience human intuition and empathy through the direct gaze of her subjects. Choi Jieun resides and works in Karlsruhe, Germany. She graduated from Dongguk University with a degree in Korean Studies, received a diploma from the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, and earned her Master's degree from the same institution. In 2024, she held a solo exhibition at Gallery Stan and participated in numerous group exhibitions including those at the Seoul Museum of Art (2013), Seoul Museum of History (2014), Fifty Fifty Gallery (2015), thrartape in Karlsruhe (2021), Gray and Gray Gallery in Karlsruhe (2022), Galerie Kellermann in Düsseldorf (2023), and Galerie Droste in Berlin (2023).
