Sojeong Lee

이소정은 자전적 경험을 통해 느꼈던 감정을 묘사하는 것에서 출발하여, 무의식적 경험이 지닌 감정에 대해 고찰하고 그 함의에 대해 함께 모색하고 있다. 행복, 불안함, 고독, 소외감 등 인간에 내제하여 있는 감정을 표현하고 있는 작품은 꿈의 기억으로부터 출발한다. 화면에 그가 겪었던 꿈이나 기억 속의 감정을 중첩시켜, 하나의 기록물로서 서사 구조를 써내려 나간다. 작가는 전통 회화에서 가지고 있는 인물 중심적인 서술과 화면의 구도 배치를 결합하였다. 특히 작품에서는 커다란 눈과 홍조를 가진 인물을 자주 볼 수 있는데, 이는 어릴 때 보았던 만화의 표현 기법에 영감을 받아 인물의 감정을 표현하는 시각적 요소로 차용하여, 섬세하게 표현하는 동시에 직관적으로 마주 볼 수 있도록 한다. 이로 인해 인간이 지닌 정서를 함께 가지고 들어옴으로써 더 깊은 감정적 울림과 긴장감을 극대화하여, 내면의 본질적인 감정을 마주 보게 한다. 그간 인물 중심적인 구도를 서술해 온 작가는 최근 일상에서 관찰되는 주변 풍경들을 캔버스 안으로 함께 배치시킴으로써, 이미지 사이를 탐구하는 서사 구조를 작동시킨다. 그리고 이야기를 이어가는 방식을 통하여 도상과 풍경이 함께 발화하는 현장까지 살펴본다. 작가는 이러한 과정들을 통해 개인적인 상상의 이미지와 감정이 투영된 대상을 일상적인 삶으로 변모시켜 감정의 다면함을 교감하며, 보편적인 이야기 발화될 수 있도록 한다. 1993년 청주 출생인 이소정은 부산예고를 졸업하였으며, 이후 독일로 유학을 떠나 2016년부터 2024년까지 쿤스트 아카데미에서 수학하며, 학사와 석사를 학위를 받았다. 2023년 석사 학위 재학중에 독일 드로스테(Galerie Droste)에서 개인전을 가지며, 또한 나폴리 안나루마 갤러리(Annarumma Gallery, 2024), 베를린 오베이 아트 페이스(Obey arts pace, 2023), 베를린 카페엠(KPM, 2023), 홀츠비케데 뮤지엄 하우스 오헤디케(Museum Haus Opherdicke, 2022), 퀼른 갤러리 비젠바흐(Galerie Biesenbach, 2022), 뒤셀도르프 베베카(BBK, 2021), 퀼른 브루흐 & 달라스(Bruch & Dallas, 2019) 등 다수의 기획전에 참여하였다. Lee Sojeong starts from describing emotions felt through autobiographical experiences and then delves into the emotions inherent in unconscious experiences, exploring their implications. Her works, which express emotions inherent in humans such as happiness, anxiety, loneliness, and alienation, begin with memories of dreams. She layers the emotions she experienced in dreams or memories onto the canvas, weaving a narrative structure as a form of record. The artist combines the character-centric narration and compositional arrangements of traditional painting. Particularly, her works often feature characters with large eyes and flushed cheeks, drawing inspiration from the techniques of cartoons she watched in her childhood. These visual elements express the emotions of the characters, allowing for both delicate expression and intuitive interaction. By bringing in the emotions inherent in humans, she maximizes emotional resonance and tension, confronting viewers with essential inner emotions. Having focused on character-centric compositions, the artist recently began incorporating everyday observed landscapes into her canvases, activating a narrative structure that explores the spaces between images. She examines the scenes where icons and landscapes articulate together through a storytelling approach. Through these processes, the artist transforms personally imagined images and emotions into everyday life, interacting with the multifaceted nature of emotions and enabling the articulation of universal stories. Lee Sojeong graduated with a Master's degree from the Düsseldorf Kunst Academy. She held a solo exhibition at Galerie Droste in Germany in 2024, and participated in numerous group exhibitions such as Bruch & Dallas in Cologne (2019), BBK Düsseldorf (2021), Museum Haus Opherdicke in Holzwickede (2022), Galerie Biesenbach in Cologne (2022), Obey Art Space in Berlin (2023), and KPM Berlin (2023)
