Sohn Jinah

손진아는 생명의 본질을 구성하는 가장 기본적인 에너지의 흐름에 집중하며, 화려한 색감과 패턴의 작품을 선보인다. 2010년대까지 작가는 자아의 내면을 의자라는 특정한 소재를 초상화의 형식으로 빗대어, 모든의 사물에서 느낄 수 있는 인상과 본질, 현상 등을 추상적 형상으로 표현하였다. 이때 작품에서 자주 볼 수 있었던 체크무늬 패턴은 인간과 인간과의 관계성에 대한 고찰이며, 사람들과 긴밀하게 연결되어 살아가고 있는 삶에 대한 본질을 작품 속에 담아내고 있다. 2014년 이후부터 작가는 구상적인 오브제에서 탈피하여, 회화의 기본적인 조형 요소인 점, 선, 면에 집중하여, 자유로운 패턴과 색감으로 역동적인 추상화한 작품을 선보이고 있다. 작가는 점, 선, 면을 통해 자신만의 패턴을 형상화하고, 화면의 구성하고 있는 패턴에 따른 색채의 흐름을 선보이며 현상과 현상의 본질에 대해 모색하였다. 최근 작가의 작품은 좀 더 간결해진 추상적 회화로 다양한 변화를 시도하고 있다. 작가는 인간의 내면인 감정선과 자아의 욕구에 집중하며, 흐름에 따라 화면 안에서 선과 면이 자유롭게 만나고, 점과 함께 중첩되어 자연스럽게 교차하고 공존하고 있는 유기적인 관계성을 선보이며, 한층 더 다이내믹해진 회화 작품을 통해 예술의 본질에 대해 함께 사색하고자 한다. 손진아는 숙명여자대학교 회화과 및 홍익대 교육대학원 과정을 마친 후 뉴욕주립대에서 회화와 조각으로 석사과정을 졸업하였다. 성곡미술관(2002), 포스코 미술관(2003), 아트사이드갤러리(2002, 2004, 2007, 2009), 313아트프로젝트(2011), LIG아트스페이스 한남 STUDIO(2015), 갤러리 휴 싱가포르(2016), 비케이갤러리(2017) 등 20여회 이상 개인전을 개최하였으며, 상하이 쥬키찬미술관(2005), 인천 국제여성미술비엔날레(2007), 서울시립미술관 남서울분관(2010) 등 국내외 다수의 기획전에 참여하였다. 작품은 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 포스코, 외교통상부, 대만 만다린 호텔, 중국 호텔 LKF 바이 롬버스 등에 소장되어 있다. Sohn Jinah focuses on the most fundamental flow of energy that constitutes the essence of life, presenting vibrant colors and patterns in her artwork. Up until the 2010s, the artist employed chairs as a specific material in the form of portraiture, abstractly expressing impressions, essences, and phenomena that can be felt in all objects. The checkered pattern frequently found in her works during this period reflects contemplations on human relationships, encapsulating the essence of life closely intertwined with people. Since 2014, the artist has moved away from representational objects and instead focused on the fundamental elements of painting: points, lines, and planes. She presents dynamically abstracted works with free patterns and colors. Through dots, lines, and planes, the artist visualizes her own patterns and explores the flow of colors according to the patterns composing the screen, contemplating phenomena and the essence of phenomena. Recently, the artist has been experimenting with more simplified abstract paintings. Focusing on human emotions and desires, Sohn showcases organic relationships where lines and planes meet freely within the screen, overlapping with dots, naturally intersecting, coexisting, and presenting more dynamic paintings. Through these works, she invites viewers to contemplate the essence of art. Sohn graduated from Sookmyung Women's University with a major in painting and completed her master's degree in painting and sculpture at the State University of New York. She has held over 20 solo exhibitions at venues such as Sungkok Art Museum (2002), POSCO Art Museum (2003), Art Side Gallery (2002, 2004, 2007, 2009), 313 Art Project (2011), LIG Art Space Hannam STUDIO (2015), Gallery Huue Singapore (2016), and Gallery BK (2017). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including the Shanghai Jukeychan Art Museum (2005), Incheon International Women's Art Biennale (2007), and Seoul Museum of Art Nam Seoul Branch (2010). Her works are held in collections at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, POSCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mandarin Hotel in Taiwan, and LKF Hotel by Rhombus in China.
