Yang Hyunmo

양현모는 1987년생으로 서울대학교 서양화과를 졸업했으며 동 대학원을 수료했다. 작가는 매일 다르게 변하는 창밖의 풍경이나, 촛불의 모양처럼 움직이는 형상들이 엉키고 일렁이는 모습에서 작업의 개념을 시작한다. 이는 단순한 형상이나 물질적 대상으로서 관찰하는 것을 넘어 자신을 투영하며 의미를 찾는 과정으로 여기며 작업으로 이어진다. 풍경은 매일매일 다르게 보이는데, 어떤날은 끝없이 연속적인 터널을 지나는 것 같기도하고 어떤 날은 펼쳐진 하늘처럼 쉴 새 없이 변화하는 것처럼 보이기도 한다. 촛불은 꺼질 듯한 흔들림을 멈추지 않으면서도 심지를 둘러싼 불꽃을 중심으로 형태를 유지한다. 이를 표현하기 위해 레이어링 된 붓질의 흔적은 계속해서 이어지는 전환의 움직임을 보여준다. 또한, 동시에 명확하게 가늠할 수 없는 요소들을 작가만의 고유한 방식으로 재단하고, 축적해 독창적인 새로운 화면을 완성한다. 양현모는 서울대학교 미술대학 서양화과를 졸업한 후 동대학원에서 석사과정을 수료하였으며, 로이갤러리, 쇼엔텔에서 개인전을 가졌다. 또한 《Transurfing》(노블레스 컬렉션, 서울, 2025), 《Peephole》(아크원, 서울, 2024), 《뉴 앙데팡당: 존재-감각》(양평군립미술관, 양평, 2024), 《전시후도록》(웨스, 서울, 2023),《계란에서 사과까지》(신한갤러리, 서울, 2023) 등 다수의 기획전에 참여하였다. Born in 1987, Hyunmo Yang graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Seoul National University and completed the graduate program at the same institution. His work begins with the observation of ever-changing landscapes outside the window or flickering candle flames—forms that sway and intertwine unpredictably. For Yang, these are not merely physical shapes or fleeting scenes but reflections of internal states, points of projection through which meaning is continuously sought and redefined. Landscapes, seen daily, never appear the same: on some days they resemble a tunnel stretching endlessly forward; on others, an open sky in constant transformation. A candle flame, though seemingly on the verge of extinguishing, maintains its form around the wick while quivering without pause. In his paintings, Yang captures these transitions through layered brushstrokes that evoke the movement of continual change. His canvases are constructed through a unique process of selectively framing and accumulating elements that are simultaneously elusive and fluid—resulting in a visual language that is both original and deeply intuitive. Yang has held solo exhibitions at ROY Gallery and Schoenthal and participated in numerous group exhibitions, including 《Transurfing》 (Noblesse Collection, Seoul, 2025), 《Peephole》 (Arc One, Seoul, 2024), 《New Indépendants: Existence–Sensation》 (Yangpyeong Art Museum, 2024), 《After the Exhibition, the Catalogue》 (WESS, Seoul, 2023), and 《From Egg to Apple》 (Shinhan Gallery, Seoul, 2023).
