Yoon Junghee

이화여자대학교에서 섬유예술 전공으로 박사과정을 마친 윤정희는 실과 파이프, 동선 등의 재료를 활용하여 조형적 질서를 구축한다. 조형의 기본 요소가 되는 선(line)을 해체하고 재조립한 뒤, 직선과 곡선, 반복되는 고리, 매듭 등의 형태를 만들어내는 윤정희 작가는 공간에 대해 탐구한다. 초기에는 구리선으로 이루어진 고리를 이용해 뜨개질하듯 망을 엮어내던 작가는 차가운 금속으로 따뜻함을 만들어내고자 했으며, 머리카락 굵기의 구리실은 같은 속성을 지닌 금속 파이프와 구리선의 연장선인 실로 확장되었다. 물질의 본질을 탐구하는 이러한 실험적 접근 방식은 공예적 섬세함과 조각적 구조성을 결합한 시각적 리듬을 형성한다. 작가의 작품은 조각이지만, 벽에 부착되거나 선반 위에 놓이며 중력의 법칙에서 자유로운 형태로 존재한다. 동시에 바닥과 좌대의 물리적 경계를 초월하여 공간 전체로 확장되려는 조형적 의지를 내포하고 있다. 윤정희의 작업은 이처럼 공간과 상호작용하며, 유기적인 형태는 동적인 생명력을 함축하고 있다. 나일론과 털실이 파이프의 중심을 따라 층층이 쌓이는 방식으로 제작되는 그의 작업은 유기적인 흐름을 만들어내고, 색과 리듬을 통해 조각적 요소와 회화적 요소를 동시에 함유한다. 밝고 부드러운 색감을 지닌 원통형 오브제들은 차가운 공간 속에서 온화한 감성을 자아내며, 연속적인 선들은 리드미컬한 율동감을 형성하여 공간의 분위기를 변화시킨다. 1978년 울산 출생인 윤정희는 이화여자대학교 조형예술대학 장식미술과를 졸업, 이후 동대학원 섬유예술전공으로 석사와 박사과정을 마쳤다. 비트리갤러리, LG U+갤러리, 이화아트센터, 갤러리밈, 갤러리도스, 송은아트큐브 등의 기관에서 개인전을 가졌으며, 《스틸 플로우》(포항시립미술관, 포항, 2024), 《라이트웨이브 팔레트》(도잉아트, 서울, 2024), 《유연하고 견고하게》(롯데 갤러리, 서울, 2024), 《발란스 Vol.6》(비트리갤러리, 서울, 2024), 《Every Rainbow》(셀렉티드 마롱, 서울, 2023), 《프라이빗 오브제》(스페이스비이 갤러리, 서울, 2022) 등 다수의 기획전에 참여하였다. 그의 작품은 경기도미술관, 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 서울시 문화본부 박물관과 등에 소장되어 있다. Junghee Yoon, who holds a doctoral degree in Fiber Arts from Ewha Womans University, constructs sculptural order through materials such as thread, pipes, and copper wire. By deconstructing and reassembling the fundamental element of form—the line—she creates structures composed of straight and curved lines, repeated loops, and knots, all of which contribute to her ongoing exploration of space. In her early practice, Yoon crocheted mesh forms using rings of copper wire, weaving warmth into cold metal through a meticulous, tactile process. Over time, this evolved into the use of copper thread—thinner than a strand of hair—which she now extends into thread-like forms of metal pipes and wires. Her experimental approach, grounded in material inquiry, merges the delicate precision of craft with the structural sensibility of sculpture, resulting in a visual rhythm that is both intricate and architectural. Although sculptural in nature, Yoon's works often transcend the traditional boundaries of sculpture. They are affixed to walls or placed on shelves, liberated from the pull of gravity. In doing so, they suggest an intent to expand beyond physical limitations—moving past the floor and pedestal to occupy and interact with the surrounding space. Her organic forms embody a sense of dynamic vitality, with layered constructions of nylon, yarn, and pipe generating a flow that simultaneously contains painterly and sculptural qualities. Cylindrical objects rendered in soft, luminous hues introduce a warm sensibility into otherwise stark spaces, while continuous lines pulse with rhythmic movement, transforming the spatial atmosphere through color and motion. Born in Ulsan in 1978, Yoon earned her BFA in Decorative Arts and both her MFA and PhD in Fiber Arts at Ewha Womans University. She has held solo exhibitions at institutions including Vitry Gallery, LG U+ Gallery, Ewha Art Center, Gallery Meme, Gallery DOS, and SongEun Art Cube. Her works are held in public collections such as the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Art Bank, and the Seoul Museum Headquarters.
