Cho Haeyoung

조해영은 자신이 경험하고 인식한 공간을 재현의 대상으로 삼아, 자신만의 절제된 회화 기법을 통해 작품을 전개하고 있다. 불특정한 풍경을 그려온 작가는 장소를 바라보는 시각에 대한 인식과 입장에 대한 차이를 시각화하는 방법에 대해 탐구한다. 풍경과 공간의 일부분에서 낯선 순간을 마주하면 카메라로 그 순간을 포착하고, 캔버스 위에 옮긴다. 하지만 사진 속 풍경을 그대로 재현하는 것은 아니다. 자신이 사진을 촬영하는 그 순간의 감각과 기억의 경험을 꺼내어 그 감각적 경험을 캔버스에 기록하는 것이다. 그는 대상의 본질 그대로를 보여주는 동시에 자신의 주관성을 투영하여 대상 본질의 깊이를 더욱 심화시킨다. 그리고 대상의 표면적 이미지만 표현함으로써 비현실적 지점으로 우리를 안내한다. 그의 작품은 유화의 특징을 최소화한다. 미디움을 거의 쓰지 않아 굉장히 매트하며, 한 방향의 붓자국도 희미하게 보일 뿐이다. 작가는 유화의 물성에서 오는 특징을 배제함으로써 화면에 집중하도록 만든다. 색에 감정을 섬세하게 투영하여, 얇은 유화의 붓질로 기억과 감정을 정리하듯 지웠다 다시 그림을 반복하여 쌓인 레이어들은 서정적이면서도 몽환적인 느낌을 선사한다. 조해영은 전남대학교 예술대학 미술학과를 졸업하고 프랑스 파리-세르지 국립고등미술학교에서 D.N.A.P. 와 D.N.S.E.P를 취득하였다. 리옹 2대학(2005), 리옹 빠스헬갤러리(2005), 광주 금호갤러리(2010), 광주 스페이스 K(2015), 갤러리 룩스(2020), 갤러리비케이(2014, 2022) 등에서 개인전을 개최했으며, 금호미술관(2010), 소마미술관(2013), 문화역 서울284(2019), 광주시립미술관(2020), 전남도립미술관(2023) 등 다수의 기획전에 참여하였다. 4기 금호창작스튜디오 입주작가로 선정되었으며, 그의 작품은 전남도립미술관, 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 경기문화재단, 광주시립미술관에 소장되어 있다. Cho Haeyoung employs her own restrained painting technique to depict the spaces she has experienced and perceived. As an artist, she explores the difference in perspectives and viewpoints when looking at a place. Capturing unfamiliar moments in certain parts of landscapes or spaces through the lens of her camera, she transfers these experiences onto the canvas. However, she doesn't merely reproduce the landscapes from the photographs. Instead, she recalls the sensory experiences and memories from the moment of taking the photo, recording these sensory experiences on the canvas. In doing so, she not only reveals the essence of the subject but also deepens its meaning by projecting her own subjectivity. By representing only the superficial images of the subject, she guides us into an unreal realm. Her works minimize the characteristics of oil painting, resulting in a very matte finish where brushstrokes in one direction appear faintly. By excluding the characteristics of oil painting, the artist directs the viewer's focus onto the canvas. Furthermore, she delicately manipulates colors to express emotions. Layers of thinly applied brushstrokes, erased and redrawn to organize memories and emotions, evoke a sense of lyricism and surrealism. Haeyoung graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Chonnam National University and obtained D.N.A.P. and D.N.S.E.P. from École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris-Cergy. She has held solo exhibitions at Lyon 2 University (2005), Lyon Passage Gallery (2005), Gwangju Geumho Gallery (2010), Gwangju Space K (2015), Gallery Lux (2020), and Gallery BK (2014, 2022). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions at venues such as Geumho Art Museum (2010), SOMA Art Center (2013), Culture Station Seoul 284 (2019), Gwangju City Museum of Art (2020), and Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art (2023). Selected as the 4th generation resident artist at Geumho Creative Studio, her works are held in collections at Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Art Bank Korea, Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, and Gwangju City Museum of Art.
