Hur Yeonhwa

허연화는 자신의 주요 주제인 ‘물’을 통해 공간의 물리적 요소를 벗어나고자 하는 다양한 실험적인 작품을 선보인다. 작가는 물에 대한 관심과 예술적 실험은 수영, 비, 강, 바다 산호 등 물을 몸으로 느꼈던 촉각적 기억을 시각 혹은 청각 등의 자전적 경험을 확대하여 평면에서부터 입체까지 다양한 형태로 담아낸다. 물의 유동적인 속성을 자기 작품과 접목하듯 각기 다른 성질의 매체들을 하나의 서사로 연결하며, 자신의 작품세계를 구축해 오고 있다. 특히 작가는 매체의 제약에서 벗어나 다층적인 감각을 선보일 수 있는 재료를 선택함으로써 물과 일상 그리고 경험의 관계성에 대해 사유하며, 지속 가능한 작품과 물질성에 대해 고찰한다. 허연화은 홍익대학교 조소과를 졸업하였다. 주요 개인전으로는 《푸른 폐》(갤러리밈, 서울, 2024), 《수영의 시간》(갤러리민정, 서울, 2022), 《Floating people》(탈영역우정국, 서울, 2021), 《Summer squeeze》(전시공간, 서울, 2020)등이 있다. 《제23회 송은미술대상전》(송은, 서울, 2023), 《The other Face of Material》(서정아트, 서울, 2023), 《Inter-face》(페리지갤러리, 서울, 2022), 《No Place like home》(아트스페이스0, 서울, 2021), 《이공간, 그장소: 헤테로토피아》(대림미술관 서울, 2020) 외 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다. 이 외 《Tu m’ 너는 나를》(SeMA 창고, 서울, 2022), 기획하며, 《RE-MODELING》(스페이스나인, 서울, 2017), 《접힌수면》(오픈베타공간 반지하, 서울, 2016) 프로젝트와 대안공간 아트포럼리 ‘사슴사냥’(부천, 2018) 레지던시에 참여하였으며, 그의 작품은 양평군립미술관과 서울시 박물관과에 소장되어 있다. Hur Yeonhwa presents various experimental works that aim to transcend the physical elements of space through her main theme of "water." Her interest in water and artistic experimentation stem from tactile memories of feeling water through swimming, rain, rivers, the sea, and coral. She expands these autobiographical experiences into visual and auditory forms, capturing them in various formats from two-dimensional to three-dimensional works. By integrating the fluid properties of water into her art, she connects different media with diverse characteristics into a unified narrative, constructing her own artistic world. Heo selects materials that allow her to showcase multi-layered sensory experiences, contemplating the relationship between water, daily life, and personal experiences. She also considers sustainability and materiality in her works. Her notable solo exhibitions include 《Blue Lung》 (Gallery Meme, Seoul, 2024), 《Swimming Time》 (Gallery Minjeong, Seoul, 2022), 《Floating People》 (Post Territory Ujeongguk, Seoul, 2021), and 《Summer Squeeze》 (Exhibition Space, Seoul, 2020). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, such as 《The 23rd SONGEUN Art Award Exhibition》 (Songeun, Seoul, 2023), 《The other face of Material》 (Seojeong Art, Seoul, 2023), 《Inter-face》 (Perigee Gallery, Seoul, 2022), 《No place like home》 (Art Space 0, Seoul, 2021), and 《No Space, Just A Place》 (Daelim Museum, Seoul, 2020). In addition, Heo curated the project ‘Tu m’ at SeMA Storage, Seoul, in 2022, and has been involved in projects such as RE-MODELING (Space Nine, Seoul, 2017) and Folded Surface (Open Beta Space Banjiha, Seoul, 2016). She also participated in the residency program Deer Hunt at Art Forum Rhee (Bucheon, 2018). Her works are part of the collections of the Yangpyeong Art Museum and the Seoul Museum of Art.
