Hwang Seontae

빛의 작가로 불리는 황선태는 유리 드로잉을 통해 사물의 존재를 표현한다. 인간과 사물의 관계에 대해 성찰하는 작가는 인간 중심의 세계관을 넘어서 사물 본질적인 존재에 초점을 맞추며 일상 속 사물들에 숨겨진 미적 아름다움을 표현한다. 그는 선으로 남겨진 사물을 단순히 화면에 남기는 것이 아니라 사물이 놓인 공간 그 자체를 화면 안으로 가지고 들어온다. 사물의 세부적인 특징을 생략하고 단순화시킴으로써 일상에 공간 안에 사물이 함께 존재한다는 사실을 인식시켜 주며, 관람객으로 하여금 일상 속 사물들을 새로운 관점으로 바라보게 만든다. 이처럼 사물의 존재에 대해 끊임없이 분석하며 심미적으로 표현해 온 작가는 ‘빛’을 사물이 가진 존재감을 원초적으로 이해하는 수단이자, 깊게 탐구할 수 있는 요소로 사용한다. 유리의 단순하게 그어진 녹색 선 위로 실제 빛을 투입하여 3차원의 공간을 만들어 낸다. 그리고 선과 빛이 서로 병치 되어, 구체화하고 재현된 화면 속에서 숨겨진 시공간을 경험하게 하며 존재하는 것에 대한 본질에 대해 사고하도록 한다. 황선태는 경희대 미술교육과를 졸업하고 독일 Burg Giebichenstein 미술대학을 졸업하였다. 독일 Johann Friedrich Danneil Museum(2006), 오스트리아 White8 Gallery(2007), 런던 Pontone gallery(2016, 2018, 2021), 표갤러리(2013, 2024) 등 국내외에서 개인전을 개최하였으며, 제주도립미술관(2010), 포항시립미술관(2011), 서울미술관(2019), 소마미술관(2020), 서울공예박물관(2021) 등 다수의 기획전에 참여하였다. 국제로터리클럽에서 유리미술공모전 특별상, 독일 뢰벤호프 예술포럼 공모전 대상, 신세계미술제에서 대상을 수상했다. 그의 작품은 VPV-LamichKG, 독일 라이너쿤체 재단, 국립현대미술관, 라까사호텔 등에서 소장하고 있다. Hwang Seontae, known as the artist of light, expresses the existence of objects through glass drawing. Reflecting on the relationship between humans and objects, the artist focuses on the essential existence of objects beyond a human-centric worldview, portraying the hidden aesthetic beauty of everyday objects. Rather than simply leaving objects drawn by lines on the screen, he brings the space in which the objects are placed into the screen. By omitting the detailed characteristics of objects and simplifying them, he makes viewers aware that objects coexist within the space of everyday life, prompting them to see everyday objects from a new perspective. Continuously analyzing and aesthetically expressing the existence of objects, the artist uses "light" as a means to understand the sense of existence inherent in objects and as an element for deep exploration. He creates three-dimensional space by projecting actual light onto the simple green lines drawn on glass. Then, through the juxtaposition of lines and light, he enables viewers to experience hidden time and space within the concretized and reproduced screen, encouraging contemplation of the essence of existence. Hwang graduated from the Department of Art Education at Kyung Hee University and Burg Giebichenstein University of Art in Germany. He has held solo exhibitions internationally at venues such as Johann Friedrich Danneil Museum in Germany (2006), White8 Gallery in Austria (2007), Pontone Gallery in London (2016, 2018, 2021), and Gallery Hwang in Seoul (2013, 2024). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions at institutions including Jeju Museum of Art (2010), Pohang Museum of Art (2011), Seoul Museum of Art (2019), SOMA Museum (2020), and Seoul Museum of Craft Art (2021). He has received awards such as the Special Prize in Glass Art Competition from the International Rotary Club, the Grand Prize from the Leipziger Kunstforum Competition in Germany, and the Grand Prize at the Shinsegae Art Fair. His works are held in collections at institutions such as VPV-LamichKG, Reinhard-Foundation in Germany, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and La Casa hotel.
