Kim Eunjoo

김은주는 20여년간 연필이라는 재료로 작업을 진행해 오고 있다. 대학 시절 드로잉 작업을 시작한 작가는 화면에 파도, 바람, 꽃 등을 연필이라는 재료를 사용해 무채색의 군상을 표현한다. 작은 꽃잎들이 모여 커다란 꽃봉오리를 그려내는데, 유기적인 질서를 갖춘 대상들을 화면 안에 구조적으로 배치하면서 거대한 덩어리 감을 만들어 낸다. 가늘고 깨끗한 연필 선으로 층층이 쌓아 올린 군상은 조명의 밝기와 각도, 움직임에 따라 율동감을 느낄 수 있으며, 묵빛의 다양한 변화를 엿볼 수 있다. 또한 그의 작품에서 순간 묻어나오는 연필 선의 속도감에서 흑색의 묵직하면서도 견고하며 변하지 않는 작가만의 예술성이 드러난다. 작가는 자연의 대상을 재현하기보다는 그 안에 담긴 생명력에 주목한다. 연필로 담담하게 선을 그려내는 반복적인 행위 그 자체가 본성의 에너지를 담고 있으며, 이는 또한 작가가 내면의 본성을 마주하는 행위이다. 부산에서 태어나 거주하고 활동하고 있는 김은주는 부산여자대학교(현, 신라대학교) 미술학과와 동 대학원을 졸업하였다. 1990년 부산 KBS 전시실을 시작으로 스페이스월드(1995), 전경숙 갤러리(1997,1999), 도쿄 모리갤러리(2001), 관훈갤러리(2002), 송은갤러리(2005), 홍콩 신화갤러리(2010), 포스코 미술관(2016), 아트소향(2018), 아트 프로젝트 씨오(2021, 2023) 등에서 개인전을 개최했으며, 대전시립미술관(2000), 일본 나가사키현립미술관(2014), 금호미술관(2015), 부산시립미술관(2018), 포항시립미술관(2019), 갤러리 휴 싱가포르(2021) 등 다수의 기획전에 참여하였으며, 2001년에 부산미술협회의 오늘의 청년 작가상을 수상하였다. 작품은 부산시립미술관에 소장되어 있다. Kim Eunjoo has been working with pencils as a medium for over 20 years. Starting her drawing work during her university days, the artist uses pencils to depict monochromatic figures such as waves, wind, and flowers on the canvas. Gathering small flower petals to create large flower buds, she structurally arranges organic subjects on the canvas, creating a sense of grandeur. The figures, built up layer by layer with thin and clean pencil lines, evoke a sense of rhythm depending on the brightness and angle of the lighting and movement, revealing various subtle changes in muted light. Moreover, in the speed of the pencil lines emerging in her works, the artist's steadfast and unchanging artistic style is evident, characterized by a sense of solidity and firmness in the black lines. Rather than reproducing natural subjects, the artist focuses on the vitality contained within them. The repetitive act of drawing lines with pencils carries the energy of nature itself, and it is also an act of facing the artist's inner nature. Born and based in Busan, Kim Eunju graduated from the Department of Fine Arts and Graduate School at Busan Women's University (now Shilla University). Starting from the Busan KBS Exhibition Hall in 1990, she has held solo exhibitions at various venues including Space World(1995), Jeon Kyungsook Gallery(1997, 1999), Tokyo Mori Galler (2001), Gwanhun Gallery(2002), Songeun Gallery(2005), Hong Kong Shin Hwa Gallery(2010), POSCO Art Museum(2016), Art Sohyang(2018), and Art Project C.O.(2021, 2023). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions including Daejeon Municipal Museum of Art(2000), Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum, Japan(2014), Geumho Museum of Art(2015), Busan Museum of Art(2018), Pohang Municipal Museum of Art(2019) and Gallery Huue Singapore (2021) In 2001, she won the Today's Young Artist Award from the Busan Art Association. Her works are held in the collection of the Busan Museum of Art.
