Kim Ilhwa

'세계의 씨앗'시리즈로 주목받고 있는 김일화는 한지를 한 장 한 장 수천 가지 색으로 물들여 햇볕에 말리고, 겹겹이 자르고 돌돌 말아 하나의 씨앗으로 만든다. 인간 문명의 가장 기본적인 요소인 종이에 집중해 온 작가는 자신이 만든 씨앗을 캔버스에 심어 길을 만들고, 언덕과 골의 흐름을 만들어 낸다. 다채로운 색을 가지고 있는 씨앗과 각기 다른 길이에서 보이는 명암의 대조 등이 빛에 따라 반응함으로써 시시각각 살아 움직이는 물체들처럼 보인다. 보는 각도에 따라 다르게 보이는 작품의 형상은 각기 다른 의미를 부여할 수 있는 추상의 개념이 함께 내재하여 있으며, 이러한 그의 작품은 작품 그 자체가 존재하고 살아있음을 감각적으로 느끼게 한다. 한국과 영국에서 활발히 활동하고 있는 김일화는 홍익대학교 동양화과와 동 대학원을 졸업하였다. 1996년 종로갤러리를 시작으로, 성곡미술관(2000), 인사아트센터(2002, 2009), 갤러리 케이(2012), 미국 Dennos 미술관(2016) 등에서 개인전을 개최하였으며, 2017년부터는 런던에 위치한 HOFA Gallery에서 꾸준히 개인전을 가져오고 있다. 그 외에도 샌프란시스코, 마이애미, 이스탄불, 브뤼셀, 벨기에 등 다양한 국가의 기획전에 참여하고 있다. Kim Ilhwa is gaining attention with her series 'SEEDS' The artist dyes hanji (Korean traditional paper) in various colors, dries them under the sun, and then layers and rolls them to create a single seed. Focusing on paper as a fundamental element of human civilization, Kim plants her handmade seeds on canvases to create paths, hills, and valleys. This work appears to come alive visually, with the vibrant colors and contrasts reacting to light. The shape of the artwork varies depending on the viewing angle, each containing different abstract concepts. These pieces evoke a sense of existence and provide a sensory experience. Kim Ilhwa graduated from the Department of Oriental Painting and the Graduate School of Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts in Korea. Since 1996, she has held solo exhibitions at galleries such as Jongro Gallery, Seonggok Art Museum(2000), Insa Art Center(2002,2009), Gallery K(2012), and Dennos Art Museum(2016, USA). Since 2017, she has regularly held solo exhibitions at the HOFA Gallery in London. Additionally, Kim has participated in group exhibitions in various countries including San Francisco, Miami, Istanbul, Brussels, and Belgium.
