Kim Wonjin

김원진은 시간의 흐름에 따라 망각되고 변형되는 기억의 기록에 주목하며, 회화, 입체, 설치 등 시각 언어로 이를 담아낸다. 작가는 '기록‘이라는 키워드를 중심으로, 폐기된 책, 편지, 일기, 기계 등 기억의 대상을 매개체로 삼아 시간이 흐름에 따라 변화하는 기록 개념과 물질이 가지는 오류와 유한함에 대해 고찰한다. 이러한 그의 작품은 기억의 기록을 겹겹이 중첩하고, 반복된 흐름 속에서 재구성하며 상실되고 변이되는 기억과 기록의 오류를 시각적으로 풀어내고 있다. 나아가 개인의 역사적인 시선에서 타인으로 그 시선을 확장하며, 내재된 공통적인 기억의 파편을 가시화하였다. 그의 작품의 중첩된 선들은 작가 경험하고 기억된 시간이 겹겹이 쌓이는 동시에 재구성함으로써 새로운 기억의 흐름이 생성하여 현재의 시선으로 과거의 순간을 다시 지각하면서 시각화 시킨다. 나아가 기억의 기록을 움직이는 행위와 함께 연결하여 탐구하며, 공간과 시간의 관계성에 대해 고찰한 작품을 선보이는 등 다양한 형식과 매체의 접촉을 통해 망각된 기억이라는 비가시적 세계의 속성을 재발견하고자 한다. 김원진은 고려대학교 조형학부 졸업 후, 동대학원에서 조형문화예술전공으로 석사학위를 받았다. 《흔적의 흔적 : A Vestigial Trace Study》(아트스페이스 보안3, 서울, 2024),《무용한 무용 Dancing in the thin air》(금호미술관, 서울, 2023), 《공백, 고백》(대전테미예술창작센터, 대전, 2022), 《Stratal Landscape 지층적 풍경》(신한갤러리 광화문, 서울, 2017) 다수의 개인전을 개최하였다. 주요 단체전으로는 《퍼블릭아트 뉴히어로 2024》(K&L Museum, 과천, 2024), 《이것은 부산이 아니다》(부산현대미술관, 부산, 2024), 《정례브리핑 14시, 27일》(대구예술발전소, 대구, 2022), 《Tu m’ 너는 나를》(SeMA 창고, 서울, 2022), 《수림미술상展》(수림문화재단 수림아트센터, 서울, 2020이 있다. 또한 Cité internationale des arts(프랑스, 2023), 대전테미예술창작센터(2022), 금호창작스튜디오(2020-2021), Pier-2 Artist In Residence(대만, 2018) 등 다양한 레지전시에 참여하였다. 그의 작품은 경기도미술관, 양주장욱진시립미술관 싱가포르 아트 북 라이브러리 등에 소장되어 있다. Kim Wonjin focuses on the documentation of memories that are forgotten or transformed over time, expressing these concepts through visual languages such as painting, sculpture, and installation. Centering on the keyword "record," she utilizes discarded books, letters, diaries, and machines as mediums to explore the evolving concept of documentation over time, as well as the inherent imperfections and limitations of physical materials. Her works visually unravel the layered and restructured nature of memory records, capturing the loss and distortion of memories within repetitive flows. Expanding beyond personal historical perspectives to embrace others, Kim visualizes fragments of shared, intrinsic memories. The overlapping lines in her works symbolize layers of time experienced and remembered by the artist, which are simultaneously accumulated and reconstructed. This process generates new flows of memory, allowing past moments to be re-perceived from the lens of the present. Additionally, Kim investigates the act of movement within the documentation of memory, creating works that delve into the relationship between space and time. Through various forms and media, she aims to rediscover the invisible world of forgotten memories, offering a fresh perspective on their essence. Kim Wonjin graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Korea University and earned her Master’s degree in Formative Culture and Arts from the same university. He has held numerous solo exhibitions, including 《A Vestigial Trace Study》 (Art Space BOAN3, Seoul, 2024), 《Dancing in the Thin Air》 (Kumho Museum of Art, Seoul, 2023), 《Confession of a Void》 (Daejeon Temi Art Residency, Daejeon, 2022), and 《Stratal Landscape》 (Shinhan Gallery Gwanghwamun, Seoul, 2017). Her major group exhibitions include 《Public Art New Hero 2024》 (K&L Museum, Gwacheon, 2024), 《This Is Not Just Local: Tactical Practices》 (Busan MoCA, Busan, 2024), 《Tu m》 (SeMA Storage, Seoul, 2022), and 《 Soorim Art Award Exhibition》 (Soorim Cultural Foundation, Soorim Art Center, Seoul, 2020). Kim has also participated in various residency programs, including the Cité Internationale des Arts (France, 2023), Daejeon TEMI Resident (2022), Kumho Art Studio (2020–2021), and Pier-2 Artist in Residence (Taiwan, 2018). Her works are part of collections at the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Yangju Chang Ucchin Museum of Art, and the Singapore Art Book Library.
