Park Seyoon

박세윤은 오늘날 현대 추상 조각의 조형적 가능성과 비전을 개성 넘치는 방식으로 보여준다. 작가는 빛과 어둠, 시간성을 결합해 하나의 서사를 만들며 인간의 삶에 대해 고찰하며, 삶에서 느끼는 복합적인 감정을 하나의 오브제로 표현한다. 건축가로서 오랜 경력을 거치면서 일차적인 기능과 용도에 대해 항상 고민해 온 작가는 대상의 복잡하고 유기적인 형태를 간결한 모듈로 치환하고, 구체적인 대상의 본질적 조형 요소를 추출하여 이를 극도로 단순화하는 방식으로 작업을 진행한다. 작가에게 있어 영감의 대상은 자연, 특히 나무를 통해 삶의 본질에 대해 탐구한다. 그의 최근 작업은 나무가 가진 조형 요소의 탐구를 벗어나 나무의 삶이 순환하는 추상적 가치가 무엇인지에 대한 질문을 던지며 변화하였다. 작가는 삶과 죽음을 관통하고 있는 나무의 삶을 조각에 담아내는데, 죽음의 색, 혹은 생명의 색인 짙은 흙색을 입히고, 끊임없이 분절되고 자라는 나무의 속성을 관찰하며 진정한 자아 성장에 주목한다. 박세윤은 서울 연세대학교 건축공학과에서 건축학을 전공하고 뉴욕 콜롬비아대학교에서 건축학 석사 학위를 취득했다. 그 후 그는 OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), FR-EE (Fernando Romero Enterprise) 및 REX에서 근무하면서 건축 영역에서 전문 경력을 이어갔다. 건축적 감수성을 바탕으로 2014년부터 작업을 시작하며, 갤러리마크(2020), 미국 Carvalho Park(2021, 2023)에서 개인전을 개최했으며, 제57회 베니스 비엔날레 유럽 문화원, 제13회 유엔 UNCCD 전 등 뉴욕과 서울을 오가며 활발히 작품 활동 중에 있다. 또한 2019년 뉴욕 브루클린에 설립된 CARVALHO PARK 갤러리의 공동 설립자 겸 디렉터로서 함께 활동 중이다. Park Seyoon showcases the sculptural possibilities and vision of contemporary abstract sculpture in a distinctive manner. Combining light and darkness, temporality, the artist creates a narrative, reflecting on human life and expressing complex emotions experienced in life through a single object. With a long career as an architect, Park has always pondered the primary functions and purposes. He transforms the intricate and organic forms of objects into concise modules, extracting the essential sculptural elements of specific subjects and simplifying them to the utmost. For Park, inspiration comes from nature, particularly through the exploration of the essence of life via trees. His recent works transcend the exploration of the formal elements of trees, questioning the abstract value of the cyclical life of trees. Park encapsulates the life of trees, permeated with life and death, by applying the color of death or the deep earth color of life. He observes the continuous segmentation and growth of trees, focusing on genuine self-growth. Seyoon majored in architecture at Yonsei University in Seoul and obtained a master's degree in architecture from Columbia University in New York. He continued his professional career in architecture, working at OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), FR-EE (Fernando Romero Enterprise), and REX. Based on architectural sensitivity, he began his artistic practice in 2014. He held solo exhibitions at Gallery Mark (2020), Carvalho Park in the United States (2021, 2023), and participated in various international exhibitions, such as the 57th Venice Biennale European Cultural Center and the 13th UN UNCCD in New York and Seoul. Additionally, he is active as a co-founder and director of CARVALHO PARK gallery established in Brooklyn, New York in 2019.
