Choi Insun ‘Painting Protocols’ Gallery Huue Singapore is delighted to present ‘Painting Protocols’, a solo exhibition by Choi Insun, running from November 18, 2021, to January 13, 2022. Due to COVID-19, we are showcasing his work through an online viewing room. This marks the gallery’s inaugural solo exhibition by Choi Insun, showcasing a selection of new and recent works, including depictions of figures and interiors rarely exhibited to the public. ‘Painting Protocols’ delves into themes and subjects that have been personally significant to the artist in recent years, such as “Light of Rawness” and “Language is Painting”. His paintings, which characterized by rich palettes and often grand scales, celebrate the physicality of touch and intuitive sensitivity stemming from his unique approach to these subjects. This collection of works extends the artist’s decades-long exploration of how the representation of images, figures, and nature leaves a lasting imprint on our conscious and unconscious selves, influenced by our relationships with physical objects, memories, and time. 최인선 개인전 ‘Painting Protocols’ 갤러리 휴 싱가포르는 2021년 11월 18일부터 2022년 1월 13일까지 최인선 개인전 ‘Painting Protocols’를 개최한다. 휴컨템포러리에서 열리는 첫 번째 최인선 개인전에서는 다양한 실험과 변화를 시도하며 회화의 물성을 탐구해 온 작가의 새로운 신작을 만나볼 수 있다. 전시는 코로나19의 감염 확산 방지를 위해 온라인 전시로 진행된다. 이번 전시 'Painting Protocols'는 그동안 작가가 탐구해 온 주제인 ‘날것의 빛’ 그리고 ‘언어는 회화다’의 시리즈에 주목한다. 풍부한 색감과 웅장한 크기가 특징인 그의 작품은 자신만의 시각으로 익숙한 일상의 공간과 인물들의 구조와 형태를 분해하고 재조합하여, 작가만의 독특한 작품 세계를 만들어가고 있다. 작가는 기존 형태의 재해석을 통해 물리적 대상과 기억 그리고 시간과의 관계성에 대해서 탐구하고, 우리의 의식과 무의식적인 자아에 지속적으로 각인되는 대상의 본질에 대해서 모색한다. 그의 대표작 ’날것의 빛’ 시리즈는 빛과 물체가 만났을 때, 보이는 색과 형태를 포착한 작업이다. 식물의 형상을 두터운 물감의 질감과 다채로운 색을 층층이 쌓아 올려, ‘빛’ 그 자체의 날 것에 부딪히는 에너지를 표현하여 보는 이의 감각을 자극한다. 또 다른 시리즈 ‘언어는 회화다’는 ‘얼굴은 회화다’의 시리즈와 같이 거울이나 물결에 비춰 반영된 현상을 표현한 작품이다. 작가는 우리가 바라보는 풍경, 인물 등의 대상은 본질의 현상학적 반영임을 보여주며, 회화라는 도구를 통해 현실에 존재하는 완전한 실체가 아닌 허구의 대상임을 증명한다. 이러한 그의 작업은 직관적 감성에 기초하여 물질성이 강하게 드러나며, 회화라는 도구를 통해 대상과 인간 그리고 삶에 대한 본질에 대해 고찰한다.
