Oh Serin

오세린은 원본과 복제, 실제와 가상, 새것과 버려진 것처럼 이분화된 범주에서 경계를 찾아내 가치관이 충돌하는 지점을 드러낸다. 평범해 보이는 일상과 사회를 작동시키는 인식에 질문을 던지며, 한 공간 안에 아이러니한 상황을 구성해 기존 서사를 해체하고 이미지를 혼합한다. 단순한 복제가 아닌, 가치가 사라진 또는 버려진 액세서리와 가짜 보석을 수집한 뒤 왁스(밀납) 사출용 고무 몰드와 슬립 캐스팅용 석고 몰드를 제작한다. 이렇게 만든 몰드로 오브제를 왁스와 슬립 형태로 복제하고, 여러 파편을 재조합해 금속 주조와 세라믹 소성을 거쳐 최종 형태를 완성한다. 현장 리서치를 바탕으로 영상, 사진, 텍스트 작업과 함께 금속, 흙, 밀랍 등 물성이 강하게 드러나는 재료를 사용해 오브제를 만들어 고유한 조형 언어를 제시한다. 오세린은 서울대학교에서 동양화와 금속공예 학사를, 동 대학원에서 금속공예 석사를 마쳤다. 작가는 파운드리 서울 (서울, 한국, 2022), 세움아트스페이스(서울, 한국, 2018), 경남도립미술관(창원, 한국, 2017), 가창창작스튜디오; Hangzhou Zhe Mu Hui Art Space,(대구, 한국; 항저우, 중국, 2016), 갤러리예담 컨템포러리(서울, 한국, 2012) 등에서 개인전을 개최했다. 주요 단체전으로는 공간파도(서울, 한국, 2025), 국립현대미술관(과천, 한국, 2024), 한솥아트스페이스 (서울, 한국, 2024), 서울공예박물관(서울, 한국, 2024) 등이 있다. Serin Oh uncovers boundaries embedded in seemingly opposed categories—original and replica, real and virtual (imitation), or new and discarded—to expose points where values clash, overlap, and blur. Her practice questions the perceptual frameworks that shape everyday life and social environments, placing ironic tensions within a single spatial and conceptual narrative. In doing so, she continuously deconstructions familiar narratives and recreates images to generate new configurations. Her sculptures are not mere reproductions of found objects. She collects and photographs discarded accessories and faux gemstones, creates rubber moulds for wax injection and plaster moulds for slip casting, reproduces the objects in wax and slip, recombines them, and ultimately realizes them through metal casting and ceramic firing. Driven by field research, her practice extends across video, photography, and text, while her use of materials such as metal, clay, and wax underscores the physicality of the objects she materialises. Serin Oh holds a BFA in Oriental Painting and Metalwork and Jewelry and an MFA in Metalwork and Jewelry at Seoul National University. She has held solo at FOUNDRY SEOUL (Seoul, Korea, 2022), Seum Art Space (Seoul, Korea, 2018), Gyeongnam Art Museum (Changwon, Korea, 2017), Space Gachang and Hangzhou Zhe Mu Hui Art Space (Daegu, Korea; Hangzhou, China, 2016), and Gallery Yedam Contemporary (Seoul, Korea, 2012). Group exhibitions showcasing her works have been held at National Museum of Contemporary Art (MMCA) Residency Changdong (Changdong, Korea, 2025), Space Pado (Seoul, Korea, 2025), National Museum of Contemporary Art (Gwacheon, Seoul, 2024), Seoul Museum of Craft Art (Seoul, Korea, 2024), among others.
