Yoon Jungeun ‘Confession in Colours’ Gallery Huue Singapore is pleased to present ‘Confession in Colours’, a solo exhibition by Yoon Jungeun, from October 6 to December 30, 2022. In her first solo exhibition in a while, Yoon Jungeun, who has previously worked in Singapore and Australia, is planning to present works that capture the flow of artistic time with various materials and colorful colours at her solo exhibition. Through repeating patterns of gathering special and traditional Korean materials like mother-of-pearl, hanbok fabric, and thread, winding and stacking them layer by layer, Yoon Jungeun conveys her own abstract landscape. The question of what materials are expressed over a period of time in her work is where she starts. The artist explores "temporality" through materials and visualizes time passing by performing repeated labor, creating a space-time in which art and human life coexist on the canvas. The artist uses a variety of materials to create the accumulation of time. The result of labor-intensive work is created by a repetitive step of wrapping small wooden rods and canvas packed with 7mm line brush drawings with thread, burning the hanbok fabrics, and layer-by-layer attaching them. By repeatedly cutting and pasting mother-of-pearl to a certain size after painting on canvas, the mother-of-pearl artwork shown in this exhibition reflects the crystallization of time to breathe and nurture in daily life. Depending on the viewer's spatial distance, the mother-of-dazzling pearl's light exhibits a subtle variation in each light and at other times seems like a single mass. Her artwork engages with the monochromatic spirit, which cultivates and investigates the mind, reflects the passage of time gathered by repetitive efforts, and creates a new therapeutic environment. By establishing a place of healing and digesting the truth through her performance activities in her artwork, the artist hopes to share the time to reflect with the viewers. Furthermore, as the exhibition's title indicates, colour is a significant component of the artist's work. The colours featured in the exhibition's title have meanings of their own, but they also act as symbols of many racial and cultural groups. A painter who has spent more than 25 years living abroad uses colour to convey the fact that many colours coexist in her single lines and that different colours complement one another. The artist carefully and equitably combined colours using a variety of materials, considering how light changes with angle, time, and air. The intimacy and pleasure of the colour itself is used to reveal human emotions as hundreds of layers of colour are layered up to feel time together. Nevertheless, each individual's memories and experiences influence how they perceive colour, giving it its own strength. Paying attention to this, the artist uses materials to capture the passing of time and infuses new life by using colour to convey the feelings of the day. In this approach, the artist goes beyond simply viewing the work through this exhibition and offers a moment for private introspection and facing one's inner self. Beyond the ideological colours, we anticipate that the audience will be able to experience a wide range of colours. 윤정은 개인전 ‘Confession in colours’ 갤러리 휴 싱가포르는 2022년 10월 6일부터 12월 30일까지 윤정은 개인전 ‘Confession in colours’ 을 개최한다. 싱가포르, 호주 등에서 활발히 활동해 온 윤정은 작가가 오랜만에 가지는 개인전으로 다양한 재료와 화려한 색감으로 예술적 시간의 흐름을 담은 작품들을 선보일 예정이다. 작가는 자개, 한복 천, 실 등 한국의 고유하며, 전통적인 소재의 재료들을 수집하고, 그 재료들을 겹겹이 감고, 쌓아 올리는 반복적인 패턴을 통해 자신만의 추상화된 풍경을 표현한다. 그의 작업은 축적된 시간속에서 재료들이 무엇으로 표현되는지에 대한 물음으로 시작된다. 작가는 재료를 통해 ‘시간성’에 대해 탐구하고, 반복적인 노동의 행위를 통해 시간의 흐름을 시각화하여 캔버스 안에서 인간의 삶과 예술이 공명하는 시공간을 펼친다. 작가는 다양한 재료를 사용함으로써 시간의 축적을 만들어 낸다. 7mm 라인의 붓 드로잉과 테이핑으로 채워진 캔버스와 작은 나무 봉들을 실로 감싸고, 한복 천을 태우며 몇 겹씩 붙이는 행위로 만들어진 평면작업은 반복적인 수행 과정을 통해 완성된 작품으로 노동 집약적인 작업의 결과물이다. 특히 이번 전시에서 새롭게 선보이는 자개 작품은 캔버스에 페인팅을 한 후 그 위에 자개를 일정한 크기로 자르고 붙이는 행위를 집중적으로 반복함으로써 일상 안에서 숨을 고르며 수양하는 시간의 결정체를 구현하였다. 자개 자체에서 나오는 영롱한 빛은 관람자의 공간적 거리에 따라 개개의 미세한 빛의 차이를 선사하기도 하며, 때로는 하나의 덩어리로 보이기도 한다. 이러한 그의 작품은 반복적인 행위를 통해 축적된 시간의 흐름을 나타내고, 정신을 수양하고 탐구하며 새로운 치유의 공간을 창조해 내는 단색화의 정신과 맞닿아 있다. 작가는 자신의 수행적인 행위를 통해 표현된 작품으로 진리를 탐독하고 치유의 공간을 창조함으로써 보는 이들에게 사색할 수 있는 시간을 함께 공유하고자 한다. 나아가 이번 전시 제목에서도 볼 수 있듯이 작가의 작품에 있어 색은 또 다른 중요한 요소이다. 전시의 제목에 사용된 colours는 색 자체의 의미를 가지고 있지만, 다양한 문화와 인종을 투영하는 도구가 되기도 한다. 25년 이상 오랫동안 해외 생활을 이어온 작가에게 있어 색은 저마다 다양한 색감들이 어우러져 살아가는 하나의 표현법으로, 그의 작품 단선에도 많은 색감이 담겨있다. 작가는 다양한 재료를 통해 시간과 빛의 각도, 공기에 따라 달라지는 색을 감각적이고 균형 있게 조합한다. 수백 개의 색의 레이어들이 쌓여 시간을 함께 느끼는 동시에 색 그 자체가 주는 친밀성이나 즐거움 그 자체를 통해 인간의 감정을 고스란히 드러낸다. 색은 고유한 힘을 가지는 동시에 개개인의 기억이나 경험에 따라 달리 해석되기도 한다. 작가는 이러한 점에 주목하여 재료를 통해 시간의 흐름을 기록하고 그날의 감정을 색으로 표현함으로써 새로운 에너지를 발생시킨다. 이처럼 작가는 이번 전시를 통해 작품을 본다는 것을 넘어서 작품을 통해 그 안에서 조용히 사색할 수 있는 시간을 제공하며, 자신의 내면을 마주하는 성찰의 시간을 갖는다. 그리고 관념적인 색에 벗어나 색감에 대해 관객들이 다채로운 경험을 할 수 있기를 기대한다.
